The Nikolaschka might just be the dumbest drink I have ever heard of. Not the worst, mind you, just the one with the least intellectual merit. Then again, there are people who drink Cement Mixers, and verily, they deserve what they get.

Wow, that is some pointless garnishing. You have to take off the lemon disc to drink the cognac, hence, you gain absolutely no aroma from that coffee powder or lemon to befit the cognac, and the sugar?? Maybe you’re supposed to drink it like a shot of tequila….lick the lemon, squirt it in your eye, and shoot the liquor. Who knows. You’re right, it’s a pretty stupid drink!

Believe it or not, you’re supposed to eat the lemon disc first, then drink the cognac after. I’ve never had one myself, but I’d imagine the coffee/sugar/lemon leaves some kind of taste in your mouth that works well with cognac, otherwise I don’t see the point. You’re just eating a lemon and then drinking some cognac…

The formulation of it’s parts may be stupid, but the parts are intriguing. There’s a better sum in this equation, for sure.

You should write about the gross gin and mint cocktail I had in Seattle. It was so bad it’s wroth writing about.

That was some kind of bartender error. I have had that drink before at Cafe Presse, and it was nothing special, but it was fine.
